Daniel Theron Rucker

Mr. Daniel T. Rucker of Lewisville, NC was called home to join his loving wife, Nellie K. Rucker, on Sunday December 21, 2014 at the age of 85. Surviving family includes daughter and son in law Bevarly Ann and Anthony R. Burrow of Reedy Creek, NC; son and daughter in law David A. and Angela M. Rucker of Raleigh, NC; Grandchildren Aric Rucker, Rhiannon and Max Theron Rucker; sisters Vera Hoffman, Eva Ott and Edith Meyers of Columbia, SC; dear friends and neighbors, Woody and Mary Cornatzer of Lewisville, NC. Preceded in death by sisters Hilda Hoffman and Helen Sellars of Columbia, SC.

Mr. Rucker was born February 3, 1929 to the late Dan and Kathleen Haigler Rucker in Swansea, SC. He was a retired military veteran of 22 1/2 years of which he spent the first 4 years in the Navy. He spent the remaining time in the Army and ended his career with the rank of Master Sergeant. He valiantly fought in the Korean and Vietnam wars during which he was awarded the Silver Star and two Purple Hearts. He attained multiple certifications while serving his country. He was most proud of his Airborne Jumpmaster wings and his Expert Infantryman's Badge. His final assignment was at Wake Forest University in Winston Salem where he taught ROTC cadets for 3 years. Mr. Rucker went on to have a fulfilling career working with his hands as a carpenter and handyman, where he met many wonderful people and enjoyed helping those who required his services.

Calling hours are scheduled from Noon to 2:00 pm on Saturday (December 27, 2014) at Vogler and Sons Funeral Home, 2849 Middle-brook Dr. Clemmons, NC. with a Graveside Funeral Service with full military honors to follow at the Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons, with Bob McCaskill of Pinedale Christian Church officiating. The family would like to thank the staff at Vienna Village for their loving care and attention to our father over the past few years.
