David Crowell Hill

David “Dave” Crowell Hill, 78, of Advance, North Carolina, passed away on April 24th, 2026. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, whose greatest treasure was his family. He had a quick wit, a great sense of humor and lived life to its fullest. Dave loved boating, saltwater fishing, spirited card games, and summers at the beach, but nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with those he loved. His favorite people called him “Papa.” He will be remembered as the best tea party guest and fishing partner his grandchildren could ask for.

Dave was born in Denton, North Carolina, on July 7th, 1947, to John Edward and Ruth Ausband Hill. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and served in the United States Marine Corps. In both, he developed lifelong friendships. A deeply patriotic man, Dave never missed an opportunity to honor those who served. He spent most of his career in furniture sales, a field perfectly suited to his outgoing personality and ability to make friends anywhere. Dave was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, where he previously served as an usher.

He is survived by his wife, Janet; his daughter, Kristin Linker Brinker (Jeff); his grandchildren, Molly and Bo Linker; his step-grandson, Will Brinker; sister-in-law, Malinda Hill; and his brother-in-law, Phil Floyd. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers William and Alan Hill, and son-in-law Mason Linker.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ericson Stoen and Rebecca Kinney, PA at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital for their kind care, as well as Ryan Vann, PA, for his devoted care and friendship. Ryan, you were always there for him.

The service will be held at 2:00 on May 8th at Centenary United Methodist Church.
