

She was always fiercely loyal to family and friends and doing for others before herself. She was also an excellent cook in the ‘Southern-style of cooking.” She had a talent for arts and crafts – sewing, knitting and crocheting. Deborah was quick to strike up conversations with strangers because she was interested in others. She attended Peace College in Raleigh and graduated as a Legal Secretary. She worked in Administration for the state of North Carolina for over 15 years, first in the Department of Transportation and then in the Divisions of Prisons.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Joshua Ian Smith and a sister, Dail Bruce. Surviving are her husband of 35 years, Dr. Lonsworth “Lonny” Smith; a daughter, Meredith Delon Bennett (John “Jack” Bennett); a grandson, Miles Bennett; a granddaughter, Evelyn Bennett; a son, Brandon Earl Smith; a grandson, Reid Smith; a granddaughter, Hannah Davis; a daughter, Sondra Jean Fulp ( Dr. Errin Fulp); 3 grandsons, Jacob Fulp, Martin Fulp and Ehren Fulp; 2 brothers, Al Fiore and David Britt; a sister, Holly Ann Daniels; and her dog, Dee.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Friday, December 16, 2016 at Frank Vogler and Sons Reynolda Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family will have a private graveside committal for Deborah following the funeral services.
