Denis Martin King

Denis was born on March 14, 1934 in Waco, NC, to Clarence Martin King and Margaret Kiser King. His parents preceded him in death and also a son-in-law, Jeff West, and a sister-in-law, Jo Howell

He was a member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church and taught Sunday School there. Denis was a proud Eagle Scout and things he learned as a scout followed him throughout his life, especially a love of birds and other wildlife. He graduated from Lenoir Rhyne University. During his career, he was in management both at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and later at Hanes Hosiery. He retired from Hanes Hosiery in 1989. Some of his other hobbies were gardening, and he became an accomplished pilot which he dearly loved. Denis also helped numerous people with their walk in life during the last 42 years of his life. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be truly missed by all that knew him.

Denis is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Morton-King of the home; two daughters, Kathy Mabe and husband, Steve of Winston-Salem and Patti West of Winston-Salem; two sons, David King and Greg King and his wife, Angie of Belton, S.C.; two step-sons, Chuck Morton, Jr. and Barry Morton and wife, Cin Cin, all of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, Elliot and Sarah Katherine Mabe, Kristin and Emily West, Angel and Hannah King; step-granddaughter, Tori Morton Magaha and husband, Walt; one brother, Charles King of Anderson, S.C. and one brother in law, James F. Howell of Huntersville, N.C.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, January 22, at New Philadelphia Moravian Church at 2 pm with Rev. Worth Greene officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home or to New Philadelphia Moravian Church.
