Dorothy Bailey Brudno, 98, died on Sunday, April 29, 2018 after a brief illness in her home in Bermuda Run. Mrs. Brudno was born in Winchester, KY on August 26, 1919 to Franklin Bailey and Mae Crain Bailey. She graduated from the local high school and did some secretarial work in Winchester before joining the Women’s Army Corps. She was assigned to clerical work and rose to Staff Sargent by the end of World War II. While in London, she met and married Lincoln Brudno, a captain in the Army Air Corps. They returned from the war and moved to Union, NJ where she gave birth to their two children, then moved to Westfield, NJ where the children were raised. Dorothy and Lincoln moved to Atlanta for Lincoln’s consulting business then retired to Bermuda Run. Dorothy was an avid golfer and seamstress, having been educated in New York City at the French Fashion Institute during her time in NJ. Lincoln died in 2010 and the oldest son, Kenneth, died in 2014. She is survived by her other son, Douglas Spencer Brudno, MD of Great Falls, VA, his wife Linda Leatherbury, MD and their two children, Jennifer Nicole Brudno, MD and her husband Jonathan Gitlin & Alex Brudno. She will be interred at the Salisbury National Cemetery with military honors on a date yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers please give contribution in Dorothy’s memory to the ASPCA.
