Winston-Salem- Mr. Edward Lindsey Leonard, 92, went home to be with the Lord and his loving wife, March 20, 2013. Funeral services will be at 2 PM, March 22, at Marshall Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
He was born in Forsyth County to the late Mr. and Mrs. Hansel Lindsey and Ida Mae Barlow Leonard. He met the love of his life, Geraldine Macy Leonard at Sara Lee where they both worked and were married fifty eight wonderful years with her until her death in 2009. They were best friends and if you saw one you saw the other. Their marriage was rooted in their deep Christian faith which they strengthened by reading the Bible together every night before going to bed.
Mr. Leonard will be remembered for his sense of humor and mischievous antics and pranks he liked to play on his friends and neighbors. His chief competitor in the gardening department was his daughter-in-law, Patsy, who loved him like a father and nicknamed him “Birthday Love”.
He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed visiting Kure Beach and had an adventurous spirit, riding motorcycles well into his 70’s with his gang “Eddie’s Angels”. He always emphasized the positive qualities in everyone, never spoke an unkind word about anyone and taught his son to treat everyone as equals no matter their station in life. He was an involved grandfather and spent every other weekend with his grandson and had a special place in his heart for his great grandsons. Mr. Leonard was a member of Marshall Baptist Church for over forty years where he served in several different positions and capacities. He retired as a foreman for Sara Lee in 1983.
Survivors include his son and his wife, Mark and Patsy Leonard of Winston-Salem; grandson and wife, Travis and Melissa Leonard of King and their sons, Aiden and Gavin. Also surviving are his brothers-in-law and spouses, Frank and Cathy Macy of Lexington and Gray and Nina Macy of Shreveport, LA; sister-in-law, Ann Macy of East Bend; aunt, Mary Hobson of Winston-Salem; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and spouse, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Elizabeth Stewart, brother, Joe Leonard, and brother-in-law, Tom Macy.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Thursday, March 21 at Frank Vogler & Sons Reynolda Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Marshall Baptist Church. On line condolences may be made to www.frankvoglerandsons.com.
