Edward William McDonald

Edward was born in Springfield, Massachusetts to the late Clyde and Alice McDonald and spent most of his life in Massachusetts before making North Carolina his home in 2014.

Edward was an Army veteran, who never met a stranger. He spent the rest of his career as a correctional officer for the State of Connecticut.

Edward loved fishing, hiking, being outdoors and active, but nothing compared to his love of his wife, their large, combined family and their friends.

He was preceded in death by his late wife, Irene; siblings, Alice, Peggy, Elaine, and Clyde Jr; grandchildren, Craig and Christopher; and great grandchild, Jay.

Edward leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Cecile Margarett; their nine children; Lee O'Connor, Donna (Eddie) Brown, Lynn Kuhl (Ron), Carl Rohan, Michael Rohan (Mely), Scott Rohan (Lucy), Theresa Billips (Dan), Michael Bara (Kim), and Dan Rohan (Shannon); their nineteen grandchildren, Nicole, Michael (Holly), Sarah, Tammy (James), Kassie, Kim, Kimberly, Katherine, Michael (Ashley), Jessica, Shawn, Becky (Bryan), Angela (David), Ginny (John), Daniel (Megan), Peyton, Brian, Bernadette (Randall), and Michelle (Katie); their thirty great grandchildren, Anastasia, Sophia, Lily, Jacob, Alex, Jordyn, Aiden, Jacob, Ryan, Kayden, Ava, Nathan, Dominic, Cameron, Alexia, Abigail, Aiden, Alice, Justin, Edward, Gloriana, Clara, Hunter, Penelope, Marcus, Lorenzo, Ezra, Emery, Liam, and Savannah; and their two great-great grandchildren, Jaylyn and Athena. He also leaves behind countless extended family members, friends, and all who were blessed to know him.

The measure of a man is not found in the wealth he accumulates or the titles he holds, although his favorite titles were husband, dad, grandpa and branna, but in the lives he changed. By this measure, Edward had an extraordinary life, and he will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Triad Honor Flight, Elks Lodge #449, or any other organization that supports veterans. Getting to go to DC with 99 other veterans last fall was a true honor for Edward.
