
Clemmons- Mrs. Eleanor Marie Hawkins, passed away on February 27, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. A visitation will be held at Frank Vogler & Sons, Clemmons Chapel, on Wednesday, March 2, from 6-8 PM.
Mrs. Hawkins was born in Chicago, IL to the late John and Mary Karlowitz Kuh. She served in the United States Coast Guard as a yoeman achieving the rank of chief and was employed for approximately twelve years by the state of Virginia in the Department of Social Services. Eleanor was loved, respected and admired by family and friends. She had a strength of character, a sense of humor and an enthusiasm for life until the end. She will be missed greatly.
She is survived by her sons and their spouses, Michael Hawkins (Kate Townsend) of San Francisco, CA and Stephen (Sharon) Hawkins of Pfafftown; daughters and their spouses, Barbara (Monnie) Laughinghouse of Clemmons and Jody (Bryan) Beard of Indian Head, MD. She was Nana to six grandchildren, Jarrett Beard, Lindsay Teplesky, Kyle Beard, Chris Lathinghouse, Shelly Beard, and Clint Lathinghouse; and five great-granchildren. Her beloved dogs Kanga and Sadie kept her young at heart. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Hawkins; daughter, Deborah Susan Hawkins; sister, Phyllis Haase; and step-father, William Denker.
