Eleanor Rhoads Jordan, age 82, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2020 in Boone, NC. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, she lived many years in Baltimore, MD, Charlotte, NC and Advance, NC before moving to Blowing Rock in 2016.
“Ellie” lived a life of advocacy giving to her community as a Rape Crisis Counselor, a food bank volunteer, and an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Clemmons. She was a member of Songs for the Journey, a music ministry supporting those near death in their final hours. At Holy Family, Ellie started a ministry providing free, monthly blood pressure screenings to parishioners who otherwise may be unable to seek or afford medical attention. As well, she served as a Eucharistic Minister and an “Honorary Member” of the Knights of Columbus.
From a very young age, Ellie participated in community theater productions acting, singing, dancing and building sets. Most comfortable on stage, she eventually went on to act in commercials and industrial training films.
Ellie is preceded in death by her parents, Marie and David Rhoads, seven siblings and her daughter Jeannie Jordan. She is survived by her daughter Cathy Williamson and son-in-law Bill Williamson of Blowing Rock, NC, grandsons Jordan Williamson of Chapel Hill, NC and Patrick Williamson of Washington, D.C., and son Don Jordan.
The family wishes to thank caregivers DeeDee Taylor, Yvonne Brown, Sharon McCurry and Lindsay Ford for their years of love and dedication to keeping Ellie healthy and happy.
In lieu of flowers, donations to your local Hospice office would be appreciated and a wonderful way to memorialize Ellie.
Due to COVID-19, only immediate family will be gathering at the graveside service on Monday June 1 at Holy Family Church Cemetery. All others are asked to stay home, stay well and be safe.
