
Eloise Briggs Saunders, age 86, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014. Ms. Eloise, as she was known by her many nieces and nephews, was born in Forsyth County to Jesse A Briggs and Mabel Moser Briggs in 1927. She was born in the family home, which was later relocated and restored by the Town of Bethania and now serves as the Bethania Visitor Center. She was a member of Pfafftown Christian Church.
Mrs. Saunders graduated from nursing school at the Old City Hospital in 1948 and was working there when she married Kenneth W. Saunders on April 11, 1953. She continued to work until the birth of her first child. Her training as a nurse was not set aside when she left the hospital as she served as a caregiver to numerous family members, including her parents, mother- in- law, and numerous aunts and uncles throughout her life.
Mrs. Saunders was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Max D Briggs and Samuel T. Briggs; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Briggs; her husband, Kenneth W. Saunders; and two children, Martha Lynn Saunders and an infant daughter. Survivors include daughter, Helen S. Myers and husband Joel M. Myers of Eden, NC; son, David K. Saunders and wife Lisa M. Saunders of Rural Hall, NC; four grandchildren, McCrae Myers, Christen Saunders, Jessica Saunders, and Hannah Saunders; and many very special nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great, great nieces and nephews; and her recently discovered friends at the Arbor Ridge facility in Stanleyville
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, April 27, 2:00 pm, in the chapel of Frank Vogler and Sons Funeral Home at 2951 Reynolda Road. There will be a funeral service at 3:00 pm. Burial will take place at the Pfafftown Christian Church Cemetery on Old Yadkinville Road following the service.
