

(Clemmons, NC) Ernest (Ernie) Price, born December 21, 1930, in Buffalo, New York, to Ernest Seed Price and Ruth Eleanor Arnold Price, peacefully passed away on August 08, 2023. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Cora Pugh Price, whom he wed on December 28, 1952.
Ernie, was a star halfback on his high school football team in Orchard Park, New York, when he enlisted in the Navy in 1950, serving until 1954, during the Korean War. Upon his return he enrolled in Ohio University, where he was on the honor roll and earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, winning first place in the A. A. Atkinson Award in Electrical Engineering (one of the highest engineering awards at Ohio University), in 1958. Ernie went on to earn a Master of Science in Metallurgical Engineering at Lehigh University in 1965.
Ernie began working for Western Electric in 1958 as an electrical engineer. During his career some of his inventions were patented in the name of the company. He retired from AT&T in 1989.
In addition to his work life, he enjoyed long-distance motorcycling in the mountains of the Blue Ridge Parkway, tennis, running,and raising his four children. An avid singer, he participated in the church choir at Clemmons Presbyterian Church, from which he, Judy Hoots, and Sylvia Brown formed the singing trio "Two Roses and a Thorn" . He enjoyed singing so much that he was also part of a few barbershop quartets, often practicing in his living room.
Throughout his life he volunteered at orphanages, and upon retiring he went back to school, learning upholstery as well as HVAC system repair so he could continue his long life of fixing everything. In his later years he crafted hundreds of wooden toys each year for the Salvation Army to distribute to underprivileged children during the Christmas season.
Ernie is survived by Robert Ernest Price (Linda), Rene Price Hamm (Wally), William Arnold Price (Johnsie), Martin Wayne Price (Sarah), 5 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
The family will have a celebration of life at a later date when his ashes will be placed with the ashes of his wife in the Clemmons Presbyterian Church columbarium.
The family requests that any memorial made be sent to the Trinity Elms Health & Rehab, 7449 Fair Oaks Dr., Clemmons, NC 27012 (put “E. Price Employee Appreciation Fund” on the memo line).
The family thanks the staff of Trinity Elms for all they did for Ernie.
