Eugene James Rice Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 55 years, Virginia Dale Rice, in 1993; brother, Lucius Lanier Rice Sr., and sister, Mary R. Ferguson.

He was a retired merchant, having owned the Purity, Liberty, and Minute Markets in downtown Winston-Salem.

He was a charter member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and had served as an Elder; longtime member of the Winston-Salem Sertoma Club; Salem Lodge 289, where he was a 32 degree Mason for over 50 years; and the Oasis Shrine.

He was the last founding member of the Pine Brook Country Club, where a dining room was named in his honor.

Those left to cherish his memory include daughter, Mary R. Goodman and husband Ronald; three grandchildren, Katherine, Sarah, and David; 5 great grandchildren; and two brothers, Harold A. Rice of Winston-Salem and Dr. William T. Rice of Greenwood, SC; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014, 1:00 pm, at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.

In lieu memorials may be made to the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 357 Old Hollow Road, Winston-Salem, NC.
