
Evoria Ann Owen Meares, 70, of Winston-Salem, born on September 17, 1941 in Louisville, KY passed away January 19, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was preceded in death by her parents, Addie and Rex Owen; brother and sister-in-law, Jean and Margarite Owen; and brother, George Owen. Her immediate survivors are her husband, William J. Meares, Sr. of the home; son, William John Meares, Jr. of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Polly Evoria Meares of High Point; grandchildren, William John Meares, III, and Austin Harris Meares both of Charlotte, NC; Addie Elizabeth Cato of High Point; brother, Carl Owen and wife Marty of Louisville, KY; sister, Rosalie Owen of Louisville, KY; sister-in-law, Mirian Schulken of Whiteville, NC and many nieces and nephews. She graduated from Shawnee High School in Louisville, KY in 1959, and graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1963 with a major in English. She taught English at Valley High School in Louisville, KY. She met William J. Meares, Sr. and they were married on December 28, 1967 at Portland Presbyterian Church in Louisville, KY. They then made their home in North Carolina. She was an excellent quilter and gardener. She was a fine daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and she will be missed by all. Her memorial service will take place on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Frank Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel, 2951 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Forsyth County Animal Shelter.
