

Diane was born December 26, 1954 in Richlands, VA to the late Bert and Kelsie Clevinger and was one of eight siblings. She attended Lebanon High School where she graduated with the class of 1973, she then went on to receive her Associates degree in Secretarial Science from Southwest Virginia Community College in Richlands, VA. Diane found her career calling in the insurance business where she worked for several agencies before coming to John Dillon Insurance in Winston-Salem, NC where she became a licensed insurance agent and spent more then 20 years. Being one of four agents allowed Diane to grow close to her beloved co-workers and customers alike and she felt they were truly a second family to her through the years.
In addition to her parents, Diane was preceded in death by her brother Tony Clevinger and her dear friend and father-in-law J.S. (Pawdad) Clendenen.
Diane is survived by her husband of 38 years and the love of her life, James "Spenny" Clendenen of the home, daughter Kimberly Franklin and husband Denny of Huntersville, NC, son Jonathan Clendenen and wife Katie of Winston-Salem, NC, sisters Judy Allen (David), Martha Dale Seiders, Rita McFadden (Tim), Kathy Clevinger all of Lebanon, VA, Polly Moore (Randy) of Cedar Bluff, VA and brother Andrew Clevinger (Angie) of Rosedale, VA, mother-in-law Martha Clendenen, sister-in-law Cathy Hutton (Bill) both of Glade Spring, VA, many nieces, nephews and cousins and her best friend Frederinna Miller whom she worked alongside of for 20 years.
Diane was most proud to be Granmommy to her three granddaughters- Sophia Marie Franklin of Huntersville, NC, Sydney Grace Clendenen and Millie Camryn Clendenen both of Winston-Salem, NC.
In addition to spending time with her family, Diane enjoyed traveling with Spenny particularly to Las Vegas where she was always seeking "hitting it big" on the slots, she was a talented special occasion crafter and baker and enjoyed decorating her home especially for the holidays.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00PM on Saturday, February 4th at Vogler and Sons Funeral Home, 2951 Reynolda Road, with a celebration of life immediately following.
In lieu of flowers please give consideration for making a gift in memory of Diane to either Johns Hopkins Medical Hospital particularly in the areas of Aneurysms/Neurology or Arthritis Research or Wake Forest Bowman Gray Center for Medical Education.
A special thank you to the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff of the ICU Neuro at Forsyth Medical Center for the excellent care and compassion shown to Diane and the entire family during our time there.
