Clemmons- Mr. George Glenn Turner, died April 6, 2013 at Regency Care of Clemmons after a valiant battle with Alzheimers. Funeral services will be at Frank Vogler & Sons Clemmons Chapel at 11 AM on Wednesday, April 10, 2013. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Turner was born on May 16, 1930 in Mannheim, PA to the late Alvis Greely and Katherine Powell Turner. At an early age his family moved to Draper (Eden), NC where he grew up and graduated from Draper High School in 1948. Glenn went to work at Draper Lumber Co. and except for two years in the service, he worked there until 1973. He retired from King Sash and Door Co. in 1997 after 26 years of service. He was a charter member of West Haven Baptist Church in Clemmons and was an ordained deacon, Sunday School teaher and member of the choir. Glenn was a craftsman, handyman, loved maintaining a beautiful yard and garden, and especially loved the beach and fishing. He mostly loved spending time with his family. He proudly served our country in the US Army during the Korean War. He met Patsy Ruth Thomas June 1, 1950 and was married May 3, 1953 in Wake Forest, NC.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, 10 months and 7 days; children, George Glenn Turner, Jr. and wife Cindy of Asheboro, Mark Thomas Turner of Huntersville, Emily Turner Eggleston and husband Drake of Bahama, and Susan Jill Turner of Winston-Salem, and a special family friend, Vanessa S. Elliott of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Brandon Turner and wife Keri of Randleman, Andi Ackley and husband Sean of Raleigh, Adam Eggleston of Raleigh, Matthew Eggleston of Durham, Michael Eggleston of Rochester, NY, and Aaron and Rebekah Turner of Winston-Salem; two great grandchildren, Eliza Beth and Kenan Turner of Randleman; two brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews, and several cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and only brother, Alvis G. Turner, Jr. and a special brother-in-law, Thomas D. Coppedge, Jr.
