Hilda was born on May 30, 1926 in Washington DC to the late Helen and Fred Thompson
Hilda graduated High School in 1946 from Eastern High School in Washington DC, and began a long career in business, which continued in Winston Salem after relocating in 1972. She never met a stranger and for many years after retirement, she enjoyed the friendships made selling Avon, she was always determined to make the President’s Club each year. She loved bowling with her friends at Northside Lanes, until she was not longer able. She also enjoyed going to her great-granddaughter’s gigs and listening to her band.
Hilda, was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, William Nelson Sr.; son, William Nelson Jr.; daughter, Phyllis Nelson; and brothers George and Richard Thompson.
She leaves to cherish her memory and be thankful for her life, Marion Houck and husband Harold of Todd, NC and Cindy Keels and husband Steven of Winston Salem. Granddaughters Theresa Robinson (Kenneth) Marci Robbins (Jim), Beth Sell (Josh), Sarah Ogburn . And seven great-grand children.
Due to covid restrictions the family will hold a private graveside service at Forsyth Memorial Park.
