

Jerry Lee Barney, 80, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord on November 14th, 2025. He was born on May 10, 1945, in Forsyth County, North Carolina, to the late Fred and Celia Barney. Jerry spent his early childhood in what was then known as Hanes Town off Stratford Road before his family settled on Pinnoak Drive off Country Club Road, where he lived for many years.
A proud graduate of Southwest Forsyth High School, Class of 1963, Jerry went on to attend Forsyth Technical College. He soon began work with Roadway Trucking Company, marking the start of a 35 year career in the trucking industry. Over the years, he served faithfully as a dock supervisor and scheduler, known for his dedication, and strong work ethic. He was also the office comedian.
Jerry was a man whose life was transformed by his faith. In 1977, after an invitation from neighbors, he began attending Woodland Baptist Church in Winston-Salem where he was an active member for many years. There he accepted the Lord as his personal Savior, a decision that brought profound purpose and joy into his life. After relocating with his family to Clearwater, Florida in 2004, Jerry continued to share his faith and later published a book, Set the Date for a Secure Salvation.
Jerry leaves behind his devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Karen Spaugh Barney; his daughter, Kim Barney McCann; and a son-in-law he always considered a son, Jeff McCann. He was deeply proud of his grandchildren—Kayla McCann Will (Bobby Will) and Drew McCann (Callie McCann)—and nothing brought him more enjoyment than his great-grandchildren, Kamden, Landon, and Reagan Will.
He is also survived by his beloved sisters, Betty Burke, Manchel Tesh, and Brenda Swain, along with a large and cherished extended family. Jerry shared a special bond with his brothers-in-law, James Warden (Shirley) Ben Sloop (Betty) and Jerry Tucker (Bonnie). as well as many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brothers Bill Barney, Bob Barney, and Jack Barney.
A memorial service to celebrate Jerry’s life will be held on Sunday, November 23, at Frank Vogler & Sons in Clemmons, North Carolina. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 p.m., followed by the service at 3:00 p.m.
Jerry’s life was marked by faith, family, and steadfast love. He will be remembered always and missed beyond measure.
