Kathryn was born in Charlotte County, VA in 1917. She graduated from Phenix High School. She later moved to Richmond, VA where she spent most of her adult life.
Kathryn was married to Arnold Holt on March 29, 1946; they were married thirty years.
Kathryn loved being a homemaker while the children were in school. She taught piano lessons during that time. As the children grew older, she went to work for the Christian Children’s Fund in Richmond, VA.
After moving to Winston-Salem in 1990 she became active in her condominium community at Tabor View, serving as President of the Homeowners Association for many years. She thoroughly enjoyed her church home at College Park and was actively involved in the church life, volunteering in the church office, playing the piano for the Sunday School class, and taking trips with the Senior Group.
One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren—she was affectionately known as “GiGi or Grandma Girl.”
Kathryn is survived by her three children; her son, Dan Holt and wife Carole, daughter, Nina DeLillio and husband Guy, and daughter, Helen Shields and husband Ted; seven grandchildren, Kathryn DeLillio, Josh Shields, Alyson Shields, Jennifer Shields, Taylor Holt Burke (Shawn), Justin Holt, and Samantha Holt Cronin (Sam); three great-grandchildren, Madison Burke, Connor Burke, and Franklin Holt; four sisters, Lois Sublett, Jane Riley, Alma Powell, and Sadie Jones; and many nieces and nephews.
Kathryn is preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Holt; and brothers, Calvin Sublett and Lewis Sublett.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to College Park Baptist Church.
The family of Kathryn Holt wishes to thank the staff at Brookridge Retirement Home for their loving care during her residence there.
The funeral service will be held at College Park Baptist Church on Monday, February 18 at 11:00 a.m. with Ramon Smith officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial will be held at Dale Memorial Park in Richmond, VA at 2:00 p.m on February 19, 2013.
