Born on 3 May 1948, Ken grew up in Hilliard, Ohio and graduated from Hilliard Davidson High School in 1966. He went on to attend Ohio Northern University, graduating in 1970 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He served in the Army National Guard from 1971-1977. He was a long-time resident of Ada, Ohio and worked as a Project Engineer for the Ohio Department of Transportation until his retirement in 2000. He and his wife, Mary, moved to Hilton Head, SC after his retirement, where they lived until 2013, when the couple moved to Jacksonville, FL to be near family.
Ken loved sailing, wood-working, exploring the National Parks, early American history, and camping. He was a member of the Brothers of the Ivory Mountain, St. John's Riverkeeper, and the American Legion. Recently, he was often seen completing small projects around his neighborhood.
Ken was a quiet and introspective man who greatly enjoyed sitting on his porch. He had very high standards and worked hard. He could be stubborn and loved to argue. He had a great sense of humor and a self-satisfied grin that those who were close to him will always remember. He showed great love and devotion to his wife Mary, of 51 years, especially as she suffered from advancing Alzheimer's disease in recent years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his only daughter Laura (Matt) Flaherty and four grandchildren, Kelsey Marie, Matthew, Nicholas and Vincent.
His funeral will be at St Joseph's Catholic Church in Jacksonville, Florida.
