Born on August 16, 1949, in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Lou was a cherished member of our family and community, known for his warmth, intelligence, and zest for life.
Lou was the cherished son of the late Charles W. and Johanna D. Mason, who instilled in him the values of kindness, dedication, and the importance of family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Floyd Mason, whose memory he carried with him every day. Lou is survived by his loving siblings: Charles J. W. Mason, Johanna Mason, and Frances E. W. Mason, who will forever hold dear memories of their brother’s laughter and love.
A proud alumnus of Fayetteville Senior High School, Lou graduated in 1967, and further pursued his passion for mathematics, earning a degree from Methodist University in Fayetteville, NC, in 1972.
His career spanned over three decades as a dedicated retail sales associate, first with Sears and most recently with Walmart. In these roles, Lou was celebrated not only for his professionalism but for his genuine ability to connect with people, leaving a lasting impression on colleagues and customers alike.
Lou had an enduring love for cooking, often bringing family and friends together for meals that were as hearty and heartfelt as the conversations that accompanied them. He was also an avid enthusiast of Civil War history, spending countless hours delving into the past and sharing his insights with anyone eager to learn. A man of great character and warmth, Lou enjoyed nothing more than engaging in good conversation. His ability to listen and share made him a friend to all and a confidant to many. His humor, wisdom, and kindness will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A funeral service honoring Lou's life will be held on September 29, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, located at 335 Springdale Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC 27104. Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate the life of a remarkable man who touched so many hearts. He will be interred in a private ceremony at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Winston-Salem, NC.
