

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Norman, Jack and Phillip Holton; his sisters, Maureen Nichols; Gay Ragsdale; Shirley Jane Holton; Gloria Fay Holton; and his grandson, David Scalise.
His immediate survivors are his wife Jane Patton Holton of the home; Sons, Loyd Holton, Jr. and wife Sheila of Lexington; John DeWitt Holton and wife Joyce of Mocksville; David Eugene Holton and wife Donna of Rock Hill, SC; daughters, Jane Grace Holton of Winston-Salem; Maureen Clayton and husband George of Mount Joy, PA; his brother, Leon Holton of Lakeland, FL; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was a veteran of World War II, and he retired from the military after 30 years of service as a Sergeant Major. He earned the National Defense Service Medal W/Oak leaf cluster; World War II Victory Medal; Army Occupation Medal (Germany); Army Commendation Medal; Good Conduct Medal W/Silver Clasp; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He was proud to serve his country, and we are indebted to his service to our country.
He enjoyed gardening, and he shared the food that he grew with food banks and small restaurants.
He was devoted to his family, and will be missed by them and his friends.
His funeral service will take place on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Frank Vogler & Sons Clemmons Chapel with interment to follow at Clemmons Moravian Church Graveyard.
Friends may visit one hour prior to the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to Kate B. Reynolda Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
