Lula Mae Gough Smith 88, of Mocksville, NC went to her new home in heaven on April 20, 2015. She was born December 4, 1926 in Davie County to Grady and Mary Riddle Gough. She was preceded in death by her husband James Kelly Smith, Sr.; daughter, Arvesta McEwen; son-in-law, John David Jones; 1 grandchild and 2 great grandchildren. She is survived by her children, JK (Mary) Smith, Gerald Stephen Smith, Naaman (Sharon Coggins) Smith and son-in-law, Jesse McEwen all of Mocksville, NC, Julia Jones of Lilburn, GA and William Smith of Salisbury, NC; 14 Grandchildren, 27 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great- Great Grandchildren, and numerous relatives, friends and church family. She was proud of her family and didn’t mind correcting with love and a switch. When neighbors and friends of the children came over, they lived under the same rules. She was a charter member of Green Meadows Baptist Church and was very active in church as long as her health allowed. She loved Jesus and was dedicated to her Lord. She enjoyed playing the piano, singing, quilting, crocheting, and needlework. She had a passion for genealogy; therefore, talking to people and visiting grave sites enabled her to leave a legacy for her family. Working in her flowers and gardening, which was a must with 6 children, gave her great pleasure. In addition to raising 6 children during her life time, she drove a school bus, worked at Monleigh Garment Company, received her CNA certificate, and cleaned houses. She will lie in-state at Green Meadows Baptist Church beginning at 9:30 am on Saturday, April 25, 2015. The family will receive guests from 10:00 am until 11:00 am and the funeral service will begin at 11:00 am, with the burial following in the church cemetery; Rev. Josh Greene will officiate. Memorials can be given to Green Meadows Baptist Church Missions Funds as she was an avid supporter of her grandson who is a missionary with the International Mission Board. The address is: 1646 NC Hwy 801 N Mocksville, NC 27028. Frank Vogler and Sons Clemmons Chapel is caring for the Smith family. Online condolences may be made at frankvoglerandsonswinstonsalem.com
