

Marie Madeline Hart, 92, of Clemmons, NC departed this life surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 9. 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born on December 8, 1923, in Swoyersville, PA to the late John and Mary Lagoski. Marie grew up on Wilkes-Barre, PA, graduating from the first graduating class of Swoyersville High School in 1941. After working at the local pants factory and the Blue Ribbon Bakery, she applied for a government job and moved to Washington, DC to pursue her dreams. This is where she met the love of her life, Neal Hart. She worked as a typist for the US government and a legal secretary before becoming a homemaker and mother to her four children.
A long time resident of Vienna, VA and a founding member of St. Mark Catholic Church, “Mama Hart” as she was affectionately known, loved flowers, working in her garden and bird watching. She was a member of the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, an avid bingo and card player and the Washington Redskins #1 fan. Above all, Marie enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and grandkids.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two siblings, Joseph and John Lagoski, her husband Neal Hart, her son Darryl Hart, a nephew David Berger, a nephew John Lagoski, Jr. and daughter in law, Kelly Hart. Survivors include her children, Kevin Hart of Advance, NC; Debbie Van Niman (John) of Mocksville, NC; Theresa Reed (Bruce) of Gainesville, VA; her grandchildren, Brian Hart, Jennifer Hart, Katie Van Niman, Emily Hart, Joey Van Niman, Bria Reed and Tyler Reed; her sister, Florence Berger (Glenn) of Blandon, PA; and several nieces.
A private memorial has been scheduled for a later date in Virginia. The family requests that memorials be considered in Marie’s honor be made to the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, PO Box 1676, Vienna, VA 22183 or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (donate.lls.org). The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Elms at Tanglewood and the Palliative Care Unit at Forsyth Medical Center for their care and comfort.
