She was born in Unity, Saskatchewan, Canada to Howard and Ghita (Snider) Thacker on December 11, 1918.
Mary had a very strong work ethic, thoroughly enjoying her work as a stenographer. She proudly worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation for 19 years. One of her greatest achievements included being the chief stenographer during the Civil Rights Trials of the 1960’s working directly for J. Edger Hoover. While working for the FBI, she traveled to many places. After leaving the FBI, Mary worked as a medical transcriptionist for several organizations including Wake Forest College.
Although she moved quite a bit, Mary always found a home in a local church. Once she moved to Rural Hall, she became a member of Kingswood United Methodist Church where she enjoyed participating in the SKY Group.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, John Thacker. She is survived by her sister, Mildred Ingram; nieces and nephews, Renee (Herman) Johnson, John (Myra) Thacker, Jr., and Susan Sutphin; great nieces and nephews, Eryn (Jon) Myers, Laura (Joe) Quarino, Nathan Johnson, John “Jay” (Christine) Thacker, III, and Pamela Sutphin; great great niece and nephews, Grace Myers, Joseph Quarino, and Wade Myers.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 20th at 11am at Kingswood UMC, 6840 University Pkwy, with Reverend Jeffrey Sypole officiating. The family will receive friends for a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Crestview Memorial Park. Frank Vogler & Sons Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
