

Mavis Elaine Haynes Rogers, 98, died at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville on Monday, September 7, 2026. Mavis was born on July 2, 1928, in the Sugar Hill Community of McDowell County. She was the daughter of the late William S. and Ellie Marlowe Haynes. Mavis was preceded in death by her husband G.Z. Rogers who died in 1995; her brothers, Ralph Haynes, Bill Haynes, Leland Haynes, and Jack Haynes; and her sisters, Nellie Haynes, Gladys Parker, Jeanette Laney, Anna Greeson, and Margaret Kindley.
Mavis is survived by a son, Michael Zollie Rogers (Sandy) of Lexington; and a daughter, Kay Rogers Dunn (Kent) of Troutman. She leaves five grandchildren, Eric Dunn (Jayme), Haley Dunn (David), Rachel Dunn (Brooke), Chris Rogers (Rachel), and Ellie R. Hohenstein (Greg). She leaves five great grandchildren, Kai and Jace Rogers, Aubrey, Landon, and Connor Hohenstein, and a number of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Advance United Methodist Church on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 2:30, with Reverend Dennis Marshall officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
