Norman Segel

Norman Segel, age 86, passed away on March 25, 2018 in Clemmons, North Carolina. He had recently moved her from Jupiter Florida where he resided by the water, a location he loved. Norman was born on February 27, 1932 in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Bernard Segel and Ida Rosen Segel Cohen. He received his master’s in Industrial Engineering from Northeastern University. Norman made a career working as an engineer then a stock broker. When he retired to Florida, he continued as a financial advisor. He proudly served his county in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant Commander and as a pilot during the Korean War. Norman was an exercise and healthy living devotee. He loved baseball, especially watching the Marlins with his friends Gene and Barbara. Norman had a true passion for opera and classical music. He was very strong willed. This will was shown through during his 15 year battle with Parkinson’s disease, which he faced with bravery and determination. He never complained. Norman leaves behind a wonderful family who will miss him greatly: the two daughters he raised, Bernalee Garland (husband of 35 years J. David) and Lisa Wright; his son and namesake, Norman Segel, Jr.; four grandsons, Dr. J. Branden Garland (wife Cagney Ringnalda), Jeffery Jared Wright (wife Corinne Nilsen), David Jacob Wright, and Oliver Daniel Wright; the mother of his children Shriley Thompson; as well as soon to be two great-granddaughters due in May and July. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 31st at 3:00 at Frank Vogler & Sons Funeral Home in Clemmons, 2849 Middlebrook Dr. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in his honor to either the American Parkinson Disease Association or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research .
