Peggy was born July 1, 1934 in Forsyth County, to John Nathan Templeton Sr. and Ruby Culler Templeton. After she graduated from Gray High School & Draughon Business College, she worked at Wachovia Bank. While working at Wachovia, she parked her car every day at Buddy McCormick Esso gas station, where she first met her husband, Ralph. They married on January 18, 1958. Later, she became a stay-at-home mom and handled the finances of their family-owned business.
Peggy was always there for the people that she loved. Her most treasured moments in life involved spending time with her family. She loved celebrating 4th of July holidays with her brother and sisters at the lake, enjoying holidays and birthdays with her husband and children, shopping and playing putt-putt with her granddaughter, and spending every second that she possibly could with her great-grandson. Peggy arrived at every family gathering with a smile, her famous potato salad, and hot banana pudding. She also never missed a moment to show her love through a card with a thoughtful, beautifully hand-written note.
Peggy loved music. She sang in her church choir for many years. She also enjoyed reading, doll-making, and weaving baskets. Her competitive side always came out when playing games with her family and friends. She was a sports fanatic and loved watching competition shows. She also had a deep love for animals - especially her grand-dogs.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Templeton; brother, John Templeton, Jr.; and brother-in-law, Garner Mahaffey. Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Ralph Reece; son, Mark Reece (Cindy); daughter, Dawn Reece (fiancé Dale); granddaughter, Elizabeth Powell (Ben); great-grandson, Carter Powell; sister, Barbara Ann Mahaffey; sister-in-law, Ann Templeton; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will have a private graveside service officiated by Dr. Steve Corts on Saturday, August 2, 2025.
The family would like to thank her sweet nurses at Bermuda Commons Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, the Liberty Hospice staff, and the Center Grove Church family for their support and kindness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Samaritan's Purse in memory of Peggy.
