Philip R. Lynch Jr., age 75, passed away peacefully at his home in Clemmons, North Carolina on Tuesday, April 30, 2019. He was born on December 22, 1943 In New Haven, Connecticut to Philip and Betty (Remington) Lynch, the oldest of eight children. Philip was a 1960 graduate of Conneaut Lake High School in Pennsylvania. He attended Gannon College as an ROTC cadet and earned a bachelor’s degree in History and a commission as a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Army. After college he married Mary Janet Meehan on October 2, 1965 before serving his country proudly as a captain and helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War. Philip worked as restaurant manager for 30 years before retiring to Norfolk Virginia. He enjoyed long road trips, volunteering at church, spending time with family, and sunrises with his dog on the beach. Philip is survived by his beloved wife Jan; sons Bob and Tom; daughter Christine; and grandchildren Savannah, Grayson, Justin, and Logan. He was preceded in death by brother John and sister Mary; and is also survived by sisters Kathy, Margaret, and Nancy; brothers Larry and Mark; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday May 17, 2019 at 4:00pm at Church of the Ascension, 4853 Princess Anne Rd, Virginia Beach, VA. Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Foundation or American Red Cross.
