

In his youth he was an altar boy. He attended St. Joseph Franciscan Seminary. If he had continued, he would have been a priest.
At DePaul University he immediately fell in love with a girl he met at their lockers. Ray and Phyllis were married on September 7, 1968. They recently celebrated 58 happy years together.
Ray’s draft number was lucky #13. He was in the army for two years serving in Vietnam.
Ray worked for the CTA as a bus driver and motor man for the L train system in Chicago. He eventually moved up to run the pension fund at the CTA.
Ray also ran the pension plans for the following; City of Dallas,TX, County of San Bernardino, CA and Orange County, CA.
Ray has an MBA in Economics from DePaul University. He taught a course in Economics at University of Phoenix (this was long before the internet) and Southern Methodist University both in Dallas, TX.
Throughout his life, Ray remained steadfast in his faith and devoted to serving God. I can not think of a time we ever missed attending mass.
He was a Secular Franciscan for 63 years. He was very active in the St. Clare Fraternity. Served as treasurer for six years, Counselor, Formation 10 years, he was the Historian without compare, sponsor for candidates and Bereavement Coordinator.
At Our Lady of Mercy In Winston-Salem, he was the Chair of the Pastoral Council. Ray and Phylis dedicated time and effort with constant donations to the local Catholic Charities and many other programs.
He loved to read. Ray would donate his books to the library so that others could enjoy them.
Even though we moved a lot. He loved the City of Chicago. Ray was part of the Chicago Historical Society. He was an advisor for a few movies. We are Cubs fans.
At the original Dave and Busters in Dallas, he talked the founders into allowing donations of toys from the claw machine to go to a local children’s hospital. He has a plaque on their wall for having completed the monumental World of Beers Challenge.
Ray passed away on October 4, 2026, with his family at his side.
The wake will be held on October 16, 2026, from 4pm-7pm at Vogler & Sons Funeral Home 2849 Middlebrook Dr. Clemmons, NC.
A funeral mass will take place on October 17, 2026, 11 am at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church 1730 Link Rd. Winston-Salem, NC.
Raymond is survived by his wife Phyllis. Children, Michael and Karen. Grandchildren, Nicholas, Faith, and Orion. As well as multiple brothers and sisters.
