

She was born October 6, 1923 in Richmond, Indiana to Ola Kenworthy and Nelson Dawson. She graduated high school in 1939. She worked as a telephone operator for many years, later marrying and becoming a homemaker and mother. She was responsible for starting the first chapter of T.O.P.S. (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) in Winston-Salem in the early 1970’s. She had also worked as a “Pink Lady” at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. She was very generous, kind-hearted and everyone that knew her loved her. She was a devout Christian with unwavering faith. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to sew, quilt and raise African Violets; she also had a fondness for Humming Birds. She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Monroe Baran and a brother Richard Dawson.
She is survived by two daughters, Aileen Haynes of Germanton and Collette (Greg) Smith of Roy, Utah; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Roberta was laid to rest next to her husband in Parklawn Memorial Park
