Mrs. Roxie Scott Messick

Mrs. Roxie Scott Messick, age 85, of The Woods at Holly Tree, formerly of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2011 She was born in Surry County, NC and was the daughter of the late Jerry Rempson Scott and Bettie Reece Scott. She was preceded in death by her husband David C. Messick.

Roxie is survived by two children; Carolyn Mock and husband Wiley of West Jefferson, NC and Shay Pittillo and husband Greg of Wilmington, NC; two grand-children Wendy Pittillo-Rae and husband Alex of Milwaukee, WI and Rev. Kerri Mock Hefner and husband Chad of Greenville, NC; one great grand-child Rebekah Hefner and one brother A.L. Scott and wife Esther of Kernersville, NC.

For many years Roxie was an active member of First Baptist Church in Winston-Salem where she belonged to the Elizabeth Barnett Sunday School Class. She loved being a part of the “Singing Seniors” and attending other church related activities. While living at her home she enjoyed travel, gardening and spending time with family and many long-time friends. After moving to Wilmington she cultivated and enjoyed many wonderful friendships at The Woods at Holly Tree and was grateful to the staff for helping to make her final years happy and fulfilling. Roxie had a keen wit, a zest for life and was devoted to her family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Frank Vogler & Sons Funeral Home, 2951 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC on Wednesday, March 9, 1:00 pm. Entombment to follow at Forsyth Memorial Park 2:30 pm.
