She was a charter member of Forest Hill Baptist Church.
Her life was devoted to doing for others, always putting herself last. Verlie lived a full and happy life, lacking 11 days of being 105 years old. She enjoyed her 3 years at Village Care of King. With a keen mind, she made lots of friends, enjoying the activities, and especially teasing the nurses and giving them candy. Verlie was loved by all who met her. If you were to ask her what was her secret to longevity, she would say “chocolate.”
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Conley Levine Ketner, Sr.; son, C.L. Ketner, Jr.; sister, Annie Goin Nugent; brothers, Reid and Claude Goin; and one great great grandchild.
Those left to cherish her memory include daughter-in-law, Peggy Ketner of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Keith (Lynn) Ketner of Kernersville, NC; Kristi (John) Butcher of Winston-Salem, and Stephani (Johnny) Adkins of Winston-Salem; three great grandsons, one great granddaughter; and a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, 3:00 p.m., at Vogler and Sons Reynolda Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 p.m. before the service.
A private family burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank Dr. Newsome and the staff of Village Care for the wonderful care given to Verlie.
Memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
