Walter Charles Liebscher, was born July 28, 1938 in Queens, NY, to Walter H. Liebscher and Julia Bray Liebscher, completing the family along with his big sister Sylvia. The Liebschers moved to Reidsville, North Carolina when Walt was five years old.
In Reidsville, Walt met the love of his life, Margaret Anne Jones, first seeing her from a school bus window. He told his friend, “That’s the girl I’m going to marry.” A true man of his word, not too many years later, he did just that, marrying his Margaret on June 2, 1956. He and Margaret had a love story that lasted 64 years, until Margaret’s passing October 2, 2020.
Before having children, they had five fun-filled years building a relationship that would stand the test of time, based on love, devotion and the thrill of zipping down to the coast in their 1954 blue Chevy Corvette.
Together, they raised four children, embarked on amazing adventures, and always filled their home with love, laughter and fun. Walter instilled a love of God and family and personal integrity in his children. Their house was the house where his children and their friends loved to gather. He would lead games of football, catch, races, hide and go seek, tag, etc. His energy was contagious.
Walt was a larger-than-life character with an infectious smile and mischievous blue eyes. He was warm, funny, and always quick with a kind word. He could make you feel as though you were the most important person on earth.
He and Margaret loved the beach from their honeymoon at Myrtle Beach, SC to the many, many years of beach trips with their family. Walt loved body-surfing and taught his children the love of catching a wave. He would be found walking the beach, kids or grandkids in tow, collecting shark’s teeth.
He was a member of the Reidsville Golden Lions 1954 state championship football team as well as a championship Marine Corps football team.
Walt held many jobs over his lifetime, but most of them involved sales. He was a natural born salesman who could remember names, faces and jokes.
A valued member of Harmony Grove United Methodist Church in Lewisville, North Carolina for the past 20 years. Walt was active in the church and in the United Methodist Men. He held various positions, including President. His example and leadership inspired many in his church family and beyond.
Left to miss him are his children, Anita Liebscher-Lantz (Barry Lantz), Walter C.
