

It is with mixed feelings of earthly sadness and resurrection joy that the family of William Dudley Barnhill, Sr., 81, share the news his passing on Saturday, March 6, 2021 in Clemmons, NC. William was born on November 30, 1939 to the late William Council Barnhill and Isoline Marsh Barnhill. Growing up in Hemingway, SC, he graduated from Pleasant Hill High School and went on to serve our nation in the United States Air Force. Following this, he began a 35-year career in telecommunications in Durham, NC. An ever-faithful servant of the Lord with a generous spirit, he guided many of his co-workers in learning their trade and was always willing to assist anyone in need of help, both in the workplace and in his personal life. He was an avid fisherman, an agile square dancer, and enjoyed traveling to the mountains of NC or any well-stocked fishing spot.
In addition to his parents, William is preceded in death by his three brothers, Glennie, Roy, and Floyd Barnhill; brother-in-law, John Poston; son, Calvin Matthew Barnhill; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and two great-grandsons. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 16 years, Susan Redmond Barnhill; children, William Dudley Barnhill, Jr., Alecia Barnhill Gaspar (Julio), and Anthony Michael Barnhill from his prior marriage to Peggy Player Barnhill; step-daughter, Shelley Neumann Martin (Peter); grandson, Shay Barnhill; granddaughters, Melanie Shinault, Danielle Fowler, and Destinie Fowler; step-granddaughter, Penelope Martin; sisters, Loretta Dennis and Nancy Poston; along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family plans to hold an intimate celebration of William’s life at a later date.
