
William “Bill” Raleigh Jones passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2015. He was born in Forsyth County on March 17, 1923 to the late William Henry and Annie Smith Jones. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Dot Lawrence Jones; brothers, Paul, Monroe, Griffith, Alvise, Virgil, and Phillip Jones; sisters, Gladys Sink, Lucile Hill, Susan Hughes, Margaret Harper, and Grace Jones. He is survived by his two daughters, Dianne Jones Simmons (Rudy), and Bev Jones Shore (Harold); sister-in-law, Wilma Jones; many nieces and nephews and two very dear friends, Johnny Burke and Aimee Williams. After high school Bill joined the Army Air Corps and served during World War II in France and in Germany. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 34 years of service. Bill was a member of Lewisville Baptist Church for many years, where he was a Deacon and Superintendent of the children’s department. He loved his church and was always ready to serve in any way he was needed. Some of his favorite hobbies were gardening, fishing, traveling, and visiting with his many friends. The family would like to give a special thanks to the kind and caring staff at Forsyth Medical Center’s Palliative care unit. The funeral service will be Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Lewisville Baptist Church at 11:00am with the burial to follow in the church cemetery.
