Clemmons, NC – Mr. William “Bill” Craig Magness, 95, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at his home in Clemmons, North Carolina. He was born on September 7, 1929, in Fremont, Nebraska, to the late William J. Magness and Billie (Craig) Magness.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anne Magness, and his son, Steven J. Magness.
Bill is survived by his children: Lynn Magness Basler, Julie L. Magness, and David Magness (Linda); his grandchildren: Kyle Basler (Sarah), Ryan Basler (Lindsey), Rachel Welsch (Mike), Daniel Basler (Kimberly), Nicole Boyette (Hunter), Caitlin Merced (Miguel), Anthony Mauro (Kayla), and Michael Magness (Amy); as well as 16 cherished great-grandchildren and his loyal cat, Ms. Jackie.
A proud veteran, Bill served as an officer in the United States Army Field Artillery. He enjoyed a successful career, retiring as National Sales Manager for Lehn and Fink, which later became part of Eastman Kodak. Outside of work, Bill was passionate about many things. He was an avid Amateur Radio Operator, a dedicated golfer, and a lifelong supporter of Wake Forest football and basketball.
Bill’s deep commitment to his community brought him great joy, especially through his volunteer work with the Forsyth County Senior Services Meals on Wheels Program alongside his wife, Anne. Together, they made a lasting impact on the lives of many. A man of attention to detail, Bill took great pride in maintaining the best yard in the neighborhood, something his neighbors will always remember him for. In recent years, he could often be seen riding his scooter through the neighborhood, offering a friendly wave and a smile to everyone he passed.
A wake will be held on Sunday, April 27th, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Frank Vogler & Sons in Clemmons, NC. Military interment will follow on Monday, April 28th, at 10:00 a.m. at Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Anne and Bill Magness Meals on Wheels Fund through the Winston-Salem Foundation’s donation page (linked below), or to the Clemmons Food Pantry—both causes that were especially close to Bill’s heart.
