William Albert Singletary, of Clemmons, died Sunday, March 31, 2024 in Winston-Salem, NC. He was born May 30, 1930, in Jackson, Mississippi, to the late Albert S. and Mary Kate (Fletcher) Singletary.
He graduated Special Honors with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Mississippi State University in 1958, and with an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Duke in 1960. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu, Sigma Xi, and other honorary societies. He spent most of his career as a supervisor with Bell Laboratories designing electronic circuits for Army, Navy and telephone applications. He was an ordained Southern Baptist Deacon and was Chairman of the Boar of Deacons at The Hope Baptist Church in Flanders, New Jersey, during the building of their first sanctuary.
In addition to his parents, Albert and Mary Singletary, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Iris L. Singletary who passed in March of 2010.
He is survived by his three sons, Richard Leggett Singletary (fiancé, Lorrie Mayo) of Tobaccoville, NC, Joseph Lee Singletary (fiancé, Ann Harrell), of Sunset Beach, NC, and John Carl Singletary (wife, Sheila) of Hazel Green, AL; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Matthews (husband, Patrick), Brian Douglas Singletary (wife, Katie), William Hopper Singletary, Robert Madison Singletary, Samuel Carter Singletary, Sharon Christine Singletary, and Phillip Davis Singletary; two great-granddaughters, Morgan Renee’ Singletary and Meredith Rose Singletary; and two great-grandsons, Corey Matthews and Justin Shawn Matthews.
A graveside service will be held privately in Westlawn Gardens of Memory with military honors. Memorials may be made directly to Clemmons First Baptist Church, 3530 Clemmons Rd, Clemmons, NC 27012.
