William Andrew Stuck
May 10, 1930 – October 7, 2018
William Andrew Stuck, age 88 went home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 7, 2018. William Andrew was born May 10, 1930 in Genessee County, Michigan to the late Chester and Martha Jane Hicks Stuck. He was the youngest boy of seven children. In his childhood, after chores were done, 'Billy' reveled in exploring the woods and fields, and fishing in the nearby lake. He was charged with providing for his mother and sisters at the age of 14 when his dad and brothers enlisted to serve in the war. Noted among his various jobs, Billy worked in the local alley setting pins, at an automobile factory, and labored with a roofing contractor. 'Bill' now, he married Norma Jean Bentley of Flint Michigan in 1951, and they moved to Winston Salem NC for him to attend Piedmont Bible College. Norma worked at Colter & Chappell Electric Company while Bill earned his Bachelor's Degree. Children came along and Bill supported his family working as a produce clerk at Kroger Grocery store for 36 years. He often brought home new and unusual vegetables and fruits, and the stories behind them. He provided a well maintained home; even taking construction and horticulture classes at Forsyth Technical Institute. His family enjoyed food from his garden, flowers from his greenhouse, and honey from his beehives. Bill was also a devoted member at Salem Baptist Church for over 60 years; involved in the men's ministry, a prayer group, the bus ministry, and teaching children's Sunday school. Bill shunned a rocking chair retirement, keeping his body, mind, and spirit active. He moved to Merriwood Christian Camp and contributed his many skills as a live-in volunteer for 10 years. After his third retirement, Bill moved to East Bend, NC, for a quieter and wholesome lifestyle. Throughout, he lived the example of curiosity, love, and extraordinary appreciation for God's creation. Bill leaves behind an older brother [Richard], two daughters [Dawn and Andrea], four grandchildren [Hondo, Andrew, Trevor, and Katlin], and three great grandchildren [Alexander, Kate, and Timothy James], in-laws and cousins, nieces and nephews, a close dear friend, Mary, and other loved ones. His tender heart and mischievous glint will truly be missed by his family and all those who knew him. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2018 from 4 to 6 pm at Frank Vogler & sons Funeral Home, 2849 Middlebrook Drive Clemmons. Final rest will be a private ceremony at Oaklawn Gardens of memory. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to support the "Honey Bee Garden" at the NC Zoo. Contributions will be accepted at the visitation or you may mail a check with 'Bill Stuck' in the memo line, made out to NC Zoo Society; 4403 Zoo Parkway, Asheboro NC 27025.
