October 13, 2019, longtime Rocky River resident and US Army Colonel Frank Edward McCormick (ret) was called to rest. Colonel McCormick celebrated a military career that was marked with achievement. As a member of the 101st Airborne Division, Colonel McCormick served an 18-month tour in Vietnam. He was decorated with 3 Vietnam Service medals, Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Unit Citation medal, and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm. Colonel McCormick was a member of the 1st Armored Division, and the Finance Corp where he was appointed to the role of Chief of Military Pay Operations Worldwide. Colonel McCormick’s military record includes the highest peacetime medal, the Defense Superior Service medal, and the Legion of Merit, in addition to numerous commendation medals.
Colonel McCormick treasured his family. He was the beloved husband of Alice Marie who was his caregiver for over 5 years, and the late Harriet (nee Templeton) McCormick; dear father of the late Frank, III (Susan), Susan Dean (CAPT Michael Dean, USN), Thomas (Melodie), the late John (Laurie); loving grandfather of Sarah, Frank, Alexis, Matthew, Thomas, Kate, Mary, Sean, Kiernan, Brendan; great grandfather of Parker, and Charlotte; brother of the late Reverend Thomas F. McCormick, S.J., Nora Heinen (William), and William (Julie). Son of the late Thomas and late Blanche (nee Egan) of the San Francisco Bay Area.
The family will be present to receive friends Monday 4-8 pm at the Corrigan Craciun Funeral Home, 14768 Lorain Avenue, Cleveland, OH. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 10 am at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, 3644 Rocky River Drive, Cleveland, OH. Internment is scheduled for 12:30 pm at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Colonel McCormick’s honor to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (www.svdpusa.org).
