Adele is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 55 years Richard Adler and her sister Natalie Katz.
Adele is lovingly remembered by her children, Mark and his wife Trish and Julie and her husband Will; and her grandchildren Samantha, Shelby and her husband Dylain and Tyler and his wife Erin. She was a cherished presence in the lives of her family and all who knew her.
A proud graduate of Shaker Heights High School in 1953, Adele initially attended Indiana University for a semester and then went to Ohio State University for the next two years. She then transferred to Western Reserve University where she graduated in June 1956. Ten days later she was married to Richard Adler, who flew in from White Sands Proving Grounds, where he was stationed and working as an army rocket scientist. The day after the wedding they drove to Las Cruces, New Mexico, where they settled. Adele became a payroll clerk on the army base. When they returned to Cleveland after Dick was released from the army, Adele worked as a payroll clerk for Sherwin Williams. After the birth of her children, Adele was a stay at home mom, active in Women’s American ORT and as a PTA President at Hilltop School.
When the children were older, Adele joined her husband at Adler’s Sporting Goods at Golden Gate Shopping Center. She loved selling and helping with the buying. They soon opened a store at Beachwood Place Mall, eventually located next to what became Dillards. It was a very successful store for many years, leading the State in sales of certain items such as speedo swimwear and pioneering North Face merchandise in this area. They were known for fashionable sportswear. The highlight for Adele was when her daughter Julie and eventually Julie’s husband Will joined the business. They were always grateful for their many devoted customers.
She always said she was the luckiest person to have such a wonderful family and lifelong friends. She always felt that her family and friends were always there for her. Adele’s memory will live on through the deep love she shared with her family, her generous spirit, and the countless lives she touched.
