It was so long ago. In 1963 when I moved to Pittsburgh from Cleveland, where I had been active in Jewish Big Brothers,  I was amazed to learn that Pittsburgh  did not have a  Big Brother. group. Somehow  I was connected with Allan  With a few other we got it started, turning it over to a stronger team that  got the corporate and foundation support needed to   hire staff. Today Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Allegheny County serves hundreds of young people,  Just wanted to praise this good man.

Dear Mr . Bellin as your worst student ever I am sad to hear of your passing . Your guidance and encouragement  caused a complete degenerate ( me ) to graduate from law school with many honors and become an extremely successful criminal defense attorney for over 40 years — now retired . Thanks for believing in me when all had given up . Rest in peace as you are deserving for the years you had to deal with my adolescent insanity !

I knew “Mr.Bellin” when I was in the eighth grade and struggling in math class. He was my tutor, and I still remember his kindness and patience…and that was over 61 years ago! May his memory be a blessing.

He was a caring warm man who lead a life for others to emulate  with living his life with intention. He left on angel wings and a memory for all who loved and knew him .

Allan to me was Mr. Bellin. While to most that seems quite formal, "Mr. Bellin" was actually my beloved teacher.

Back in 6th grade I wasn't very good in math. I was good student and really tried my best but for whatever reason math was not my thing. Mr. Bellin would spend extra time with me after class to help me work through the lessons. He was the kindest most patient teacher. It wasn't just the time he spent with me that made me feel so cared for it was the way he spoke with me. He had such a calming demeanor. He made everything (especially in math) feel so simple and non-stressful. That year math was not only manageable but I enjoyed his class and worked hard for him.

I developed such a close relationship with him I asked my parents if I could invite him to my bar mitzvah. Sure enough Mr. Bellin was there for me on my big day just as he was every day in Algebra class.

As simple as this might sound I really did look up to and respect Mr. Bellin! Im proud to call myself one of his students.

I'm sure he left a similar impression on his other students and people in his life. He will be truly missed.

May Hashem comfort you and the family and may his neshama have an Aliyah. - amen!

Mr. Bellin was a genuinely kind man who was always so gracious and humble. He impacted so many lives on so many levels.  He left a legacy of lifelong learning to his entire family. 
I am grateful to have known him through the many years of friendship with his daughter, Barbara. 
May his memory be eternal.. Thoughts and prayers to all of the family.

Dear Allen Bellin,
Our “50s Generation” has lost a great soul. Your dignity as an able teacher, counselor and caring friend set a standard seldom achieved. When “early students” reminisce about teachers who made a difference, you’re at the top  (not only alphabetically!). 
The legacy you’ve shared is gratefully cherished.
