Arnold was very nice to me and my family from when we first moved to the area, and were in fact quite new to the United States. He knew me from when I was an infant. Over the years we were often guests at his home, and I recall that stuffed cabbage was a dinner he made for us many times. That was a delicious dish. I went to the elementary school for several years, and generally was outdoors on the weekends and during summers, so I would see Arnold all the time. Being a little boy I was always prepared to eat something, and Arnold of course knew about that! I recall one occasion, maybe it was baseball season or maybe it was just after school, I chatted with him in his driveway. He had some macaroons, he said to me, and I was all for eating some of those in Arnold's kitchen. I said to him that some milk to wash it down would be good, and he surprised me by replying that I was a pretty smart fellow to suggest that idea! 
I was surprised because the milk idea seemed obvious. But that was a way that Arnold had. On that day, he made it seem that washing down the macaroons with milk was a revolutionary idea that I had come up with!
Perhaps I got it from him, for certainly I am inclined to have fun with people in the same way, being silly and being positive all at once.
As far as baseball, I was jealous that Arnold was there in person for the 1948 victory parade at downtown Cleveland. I think he said that he was a law student at that time.
Those are the things I thought of, on hearing this news today.
