Mrs. Newman was one of the best teachers I had in my Shaker career.   I'll never forget learning the Scientific Method from her.   She was a lovely person also.  My condolences.

Mrs. Newman was an outstanding teacher. She stressed to solve problems with the scientific method. 1. State problem 2. Observe 3. Theory 4. Experiment 5. Conclusion I remember I had to stay after school because I did not grasp mix fractions. I learned them due to Mrs. Newman's dedication on her time. At the time I did not like her stern and demanding ways. But she cared! If everyone had a teacher like Mrs. Newman the world would be a far better place. I am blessed I experienced this awesome teacher. I did sell Mrs. Newman Buicks over the years. Had I known she was at Judson I would have visited her. Truly an ICON in the Cleveland community!

I just received this notice from a fellow Mercer-ite while on the computer at the library & I involuntarily let out an audible sigh of anguish, which made everyone around me, turn to me, as Mrs. Newman left an indelible impression since having her as my 5th grade teacher.  She, as Randy Schorr expressed, had the highest of expectations & set the gold standard for teaching and learning...she was very driven to do her best at all times...she would get a big "E" for effort; super conscientious to teach us as much as possible & to make sure we inhaled it...she could be alternately be tough, always serious, but really caring of each & every classmate; being the first & only teacher I had at Mercer with the mantra, 'if you don't understand something, there's nothing wrong with coming up to my desk & telling me & I will help you till you have complete understanding.'  Had I known she was still alive all these yrs., I would have visited her at Judson.  It both heartens me & yet, doesn't totally surprise me that she lived to an amazing 102 yrs..  Rest assured that she positively affected more lives than one can count, if I speak for my other mercer-ites...she's leaves an indelible legacy & I & others will surely miss her.  Mrs. Newman...Job well done !  You deserve many SUPERS for your excellence!!!

Mrs. Newman was my 5th grade teacher at Mercer.  She really made a difference in my life.  I am now a successful attorney.  I'm not sure I would have achieved what I have without Mrs. Newman demanding of me a level of work that no other teacher pushed for.
