CALVIN J. "CAL" COHEN, 85, died unexpectedly Saturday, Sept. 30. Born in Cleveland and a lifelong resident, Cal rose from the shipping department of Cleveland's Bobbie Brooks to become chief financial officer of the Fortune 500 Company. He later served as finance director for Leichtung Tools, Century Products and Cap Toys. He was a volunteer leader locally of the AARP tax-assistance program and the Cleveland chapter of SCORE. More recently he served as volunteer accountant for the Montefiore Jewish nursing home in Beachwood and was honored as Montefiore's Man of the Year. Cal was a wise, loving and generous husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who was loved and admired by all who knew him. He enjoyed reading, attending plays and other cultural events, running and staying fit, traveling and, most of all, spending time with his family. In his early 80s he was still jogging three miles at a time several days a week. He was also a devoted and often long-suffering Cleveland sports fan. During his youth he worked as a vendor at Cleveland Stadium, and over his lifetime he witnessed high and lows stretching from the days of League Park and the glory years of the Browns through the Cavs' dramatic Game 7 win and the Indians' recent record-setting win streak. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dolores Gorman Cohen; daughter Nancy Rich of Boynton Beach, Florida; son Edward Cohen of Reno, Nevada; sister Margie Rothman; grandchildren Jaime, Amanda, Zachary and Brittany Rich and Scott Cohen and Kelly Cohen-Mazurowski; and great-grandchildren Dylan and Mason Vining and Benjamin Waks. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 3 with interment in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Contributions in lieu of flowers are suggested to L’dor V’dor fund of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland (www.jewishclevelandgifts.org). Services under the direction of BERKOWITZ-KUMIN-BOOKATZ MEMORIAL CHAPEL (800) 448-2210
