

MORGENSTERN Honorable Conrad J. Morgenstern: April 25, 1924 - January 14, 2017. Beloved Husband of Renee Saltzman Morgenstern; Loving Father of Jonathan D. Morgenstern, Margo Cohen, Richard L. Morgenstern, Beth Kuhel; Grandfather of Adam Cohen, Elan Cohen, Michael Morgenstern, Ryan Kuhel, Brett Morgenstern, Max Morgenstern, Danielle Cohen, Tali Kuhel and Alana Morgenstern. While a newlywed, joined Big Brothers of America and was a devoted Big Brother to an 11 year old boy and was Best Man at his wedding. Served in the U.S. Army, 42nd Rainbow Division, Sergeant, Infantry, Heavy Mortar Crew, Carbine Rifleman during the Battle of the Bulge and liberated Dachau Concentration Camp. Awarded: 2 Bronze Stars, 3 Purple Hearts, European Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal among others. Graduated from Case Western Reserve University Law School in 1949. Was admitted to practice before The Supreme Court of Ohio, U.S. District Court - Northern District of Ohio, U.S. Court of Appeals - Sixth Circuit, The United States Supreme Court and The Supreme Court of Texas. Specialized in civil litigation, business litigation, bankruptcy and business reorganization law. Founded and served as General Counsel and Director of Midwestern National Life Insurance Co. Served as: Acting Judge in Shaker Heights, Ohio, Municipal Court, American Arbitration Association and Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas Arbitrator Panelist and Chairperson, and The Citizens League of Cleveland, Judicial Scanning and Selection Committee. Appointed as the first United States Trustee under Presidents Reagan and Bush and presided over Region IX for Ohio and Michigan administering all bankruptcy cases filed under Chapters 7, 11, 12 and 13 and during his tenure handled cases totalling over $25 Billion. Was Senior Vice President and Director of the investment firm of Brown, Gibbons & Lang, Inc. Appointed as Cuyahoga County Grand Jury Foreman. Served on Board of Trustees of Metro-Health System Hospitals. Elected President of Zionist Organization of America, Cleveland Region and National Vice President. Served as Member of the Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland Delegate Assembly, Vice President and Endowment Fund Chair of The Jewish National Fund Council of Cleveland, Board of Trustees of the College of Jewish Studies and Board of Trustees of The Cleveland Hebrew Schools. Was 2002 Cleveland Aish HaTorah Gala Honoree. Member of Jewish War Veterans Post 44.
