I can't believe how quickly the years go by ... leaving a huge empty space where Dan was.  I have uber number of pictures with the four travelers ... Dan and Adrienne, Gary and Sue.  Not a day goes by that he is not on our mind.  We have so many wonderful memories of the many things we did together.  His mischievous smile was our warning that Dan was going to get us into a funny situation.  He brought so much LIFE into our lives.  One of my favorite memories was when Dan whipped out his measuring tape and began to measure the windows outside of a restaurant.  People in the restaurant thought he  was doing his job.  He loved that he could get away with his silly ideas.  Dan leaves behind the love of family and friends and Gary and I feel blessed to have had him in our lives.  But we are still blessed because we have Addie ... one of the sweetest and kindness woman we know.  They were a perfect couple ... one sweet and one hilarious!  Love you both!  Sue and Gary Speizer

Dan was the best counselor that worked at Greenview Jr. High during my tenure there.  He was a mensch, humorous, hard worker and friend to our student body.  Our annual Sea World trip was always a success because of his involvement and because of his planning we all had  fun times at the annual seventh grade pizza party. Dan exuded professionalism and compassion in his years as a counselor and teacher. May he rest in eternal peace. Kathie Johnson

There are so many memories of the many times and travels with Dan and Addie.  He brought laughter to our lives. He brought wisdom to our lives.  He brought love to our lives.  Most important is he brought endless games of Canasta to our lives and with it pain from laughing so hard.  Miss him sooo much!

"My cousin Danny."  That is what I called Danny and he called me "Betsy."  Danny was my very special cousin who I loved and respected.  I always enjoyed talking to him and getting caught up on the family and what was going on in his life.  I have many special memories that I will cherish.   To Addie, Cheryl, David, Marilyn, "May Danny's memory be a blessing."

Danny was my backyard neighbor and best friend growing up through our elementary school years.  We spent a lot of time together in those days, along with the other “kids on Berkley Rd”.  We unfortunately drifted apart when I entered junior high school.  When a milestone anniversary notice was posted in the CJN a few years ago I called Danny and we rekindled our relationship, meeting for lunches with my brother and another old neighbor, reminiscing about the “old days”.

To Adrienne, Marilyn, and family please accept my sincerest condolences on your loss.  You, as well as I, will miss him and remember our happy times together which will keep his memory alive!


We cannot express how sad we are about Danny's passing. I have such fond memories of growing up and spending time with my wonderful, fun-loving cousin Danny. Being 10 years older than me, he was such an amazing role model. As a young adult  launching my teaching career, I remember Danny recommending me to tutor one of his young students. I also remember him helping out in my dad's hardware store.  My dad, as many of us,  had a very special love for Danny. The photo attached shows Danny as the ring bearer at my parent's wedding, which was on June 14, the same day Danny and Addie married. I love this photo and the somewhat timid look on Danny's face as he stands next to his mom . Was he ever timid again?? The last time I saw Danny, he so generously offered to take me some time when I was back  in Cleveland to the neighborhood where my dad had his store.  That was DANNY!!  I often think of him making this offer and had hoped one day to take him up on it.  Love you Danny, and rest in peace.  Diane and Bob Silver

I loved playing poker every Monday night with Dan over the past many years!!  He was a super nice, caring, and thoughtful, fun guy!  I will miss him!!

Mr. Makoroff was my favorite teacher at Rowland Elementary School.  He was considered by all the kids as a cool guy.  He made school fun and relevant.

One day, l came home and he was sitting at our kitchen table talking to my Mom and Dad.  I almost passed out until I was told that he was arranging Bar Mitzvah invitations with my parents.  Little did I know that he sold invitations on the side.

My deepest sympathies to his family.  He sure was a wonderful and inspirational man.

I was just informed by 2 classmates from my 6th grade class at Rowland  School of the passing of Mr.  Makoroff.  He was my favorite school teacher at Rowland  and I still have fond memories from that school yr of 1964-65.

We are heartbroken for Dan's family as well as for ourselves.  We adored Dan ... in fact Gary considered him a brother.  We adore Adrienne and will always be available when she needs us.  We love the Makoroff extended family and send our deepest sympathies.  There are just so many memories we shared ... travel, dining, and especially Canasta.  Never laughed so hard!  Dan and Sue's quick wits made the time together ... never dull.  Dan always bragging that South Euclid/Lyndhurst was a better school district than Cleveland.  He just loved to gloat.  He talked so proudly about his family.  They were the most important thing in his life.  He was a good friend and cannot be replaced.  Dan leaves a huge hole in our hearts.  Life will never be the same for all of us!

I was saddened to hear of Danny's passing. I just wanted to share a memory I've had of him all these many years . I was a first-year teacher at Greenview and had just celebrated my 22nd birthday. He wanted to assure me that my seventh graders had no clue how young and inexperienced I was. He told me to ask them how old they thought I was. They guessed numbers that ranged from 40's to 50's! I was shocked...and relieved. In his clever , relaxed way he showed me I had nothing to worry about. I'll always remember my years at Greenview with much fondness and he was a big part of  helping to make those years so positive. May his memory be for a blessing.

Dear Makoroff family,
I am stunned and grieve along with you for the loss of a very dear soul.  He was the very best school counselor I ever worked with in my teaching career.  The highlight of our combined efforts was our entire Greenview seventh grade Sea World field trip each May which involved the largest school group annually at the park.  Dan  was a detail person and brought brown garbage bags, rescued any left over apples, bags of chips from the cafeteria boxed lunches that were delivered to us at noon by Jim Kenosh, and later distributed the apples and chips to hungry seventh graders on the bus trip back to Greenview.  Pam Sears, the Education Director at Sea World  called me numerous times remarking that they always looked forward to our annual visit, we caused them no problems and cleaned up after ourselves and were always welcome at the park particularly after Brush High biology students were  banned from the park when some tenth graders threw fireworks near the mammal pools. We set up our date in January and only one year it rained as we were driving home to Greenview. We only lost one person, a mother chaperone and Jim Kenosh had to drive back to Aurora to retrieve her.
Another memory was the annual Friday night pizza party and dance in February for the entire seventh grade.  It was a fun time for students and faculty. Dan always volunteered to go with Julia Foster to select our tree, our Hanukkah Bush. Dan had exuberance for any project he tackled, he was committed to our student body. May he Rest In Peace and eternal light shine upon him.  Kathleen Johnson
