

Daniel T. Weidenthal, M.D., of Pepper Pike, Ohio passed away on June 6, 2026 at the age of 93. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to Dr. Clarence M. Weidenthal and Anne Weidenthal (nee Tilles). Preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Judith L. Weidenthal (nee Weinberg). Survived by his sons Dr. David T. Weidenthal (Laura), grandson Sammy Weidenthal, and Jeffrey Weidenthal (Meg Burgess), grandson Peter.
A graduate of Shaker Heights High School, Dartmouth College, and Western Reserve School of Medicine, he pursued his interest in diseases and surgery of the eye with a residency at the Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit, MI, and further training at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington D.C. He completed a fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary of Boston under the esteemed Dr. Charles Schepens, who was a pioneer in the study and treatment of retinal disease. In 1965 he returned to Cleveland and began private practice specializing exclusively in medical and surgical treatment of diseases of the retina. At the time, he was one of the first retinal specialists in Ohio. After joining the staff at St. Luke’s Hospital, he later became director of the Department of Ophthalmology and the resident training program. In private practice until 2024, he continued as a consultant at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Louis Stokes VAH in Cleveland until a few weeks before his death. He was a practitioner of Ophthalmology for over 60 years and a charter member of both the Retina Society and the Macula Society.
A longtime member of the Oakwood Club and Mayfield Sand Ridge Club, he was an avid golfer known to be a denizen of the driving range regardless of the ever-changing Cleveland weather.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June12th at 10:30 a.m. at Congregation Mishkan Or in Beachwood, OH followed by burial at Lake View Cemetery.
Family will receive friends at Mayfield Country Club, 1545 Sheridan Road, South Euclid 44121 on FRIDAY from 1:00pm to 3:00pm and at Congregation Mishkan Or on SUNDAY, June 14, 2026 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm
