

Born on February 26, 1966, to Nason and Nancy Lightman, David was a lifelong lover of music and an accomplished guitar player. He graduated from Cleveland Heights High School in 1984, where he played string bass in the orchestra for four years. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1988 and later studied at the Ohio School of Broadcasting. David was also a dedicated fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland Guardians.
David worked at Northfield Park, where he was honored as Employee of the Year for his dedication and hard work. He later served as an event manager for Marriott Hotels, where he ensured every event ran perfectly. During the last five years of his life, David devoted himself to caring for his father. It was this dedication that enabled his father to remain in his home until his final days.
He is survived by his loving sister, Lisa Lightman; his nieces, Rachel and Danielle VanHorn ; his beloved cat, Beyoncé Pearl O’Brien; and many lifelong friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Nason and Nancy Lightman, and his brother, James Aaron Lightman.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Berkowitz-Kumin-Bookatz Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Shiva will be observed following the interment at the home of Lisa Lightman. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cleveland Heights High School Orchestra in David’s memory.
