When services were held in honor of David last month, it did not surprise me that as his grandchildren spoke to all of us in attendance, each of them insisted - playfully - that they were David's favorite.

The truth is, we all thought we were David's favorite, even if we were not one of the grandkids. That's because David Myeroff had a way of engaging every person with a look that not only confirmed his own honor and dignity, but it was clear he was seeing the best part of who we are and who we might one day be. 

I was not his son. I was not his grandson. I was just a family friend, like so many who regret his passing. But from the very first time I met David, I always felt lucky to spend time with him and eager to live up to the look in his eyes that seemed to be saying "I believe in you. You could be great."

David Myeroff was someone who you had to like, had to honor and looked forward to seeing. He was the first Myeroff I met in this life. That was a special gift as it connected me to one of the most special families I have ever known.

Dear Adrienne ... We were traveling and just learned the sad news of David's passing. My deepest condolences to all the family. Many memories with all of them up at Lake Chautauqua. Loved watching David tear up the lake on his Hobie Cat, a man totally in the moment  and enjoying life to the fullest. Kevin, Randy and Nancy; you all are in my thoughts and prayers.
