My condolences,
 A truly decent man who made me comfortable in an awkward situation at a pivotal point in my life. 
The easy comfort he and his family provided to a young man struggling with catastrophic stupidity and emotional damage truly changed my life. 
I am eternally grateful for Nancy and the brief time I was exposed through her to this wonderful man.

A special man. A special life. He was always there for everyone. An emergency on Sunday? His home could be an office too.
His heart knew no bounds reaching out and touching all.
I am thankful to have known him.

Today I just learned of Ed's passing. He was like a second father to me after he became the CWRU Medical Alumni Association's president just a couple months after I became Medical Alumni Director. We became very close. So many wonderful memories of that year and all the years afterward when worked together for the Med Alumni, which often required playing golf! He brought me back to CWRU Med in 2007 when he was asked to be Med Alumi President again by the university. My thoughts are with everyone in his family and his wide world of friends. I am so, so, so sorry to have missed his service in February.  The Medical School and the University are great because of people like Ed Eigner.

Yesterday, February 8, at my book club I first heard that Dr. Eigner, Eddie, had died. He was one of my professors when I was a resident in ophthalmology at CWRU and University Hospitals then over the years a collegue, a friend to greet at our ophtahlmology meetings, and occasionally  one to touch base with at various academic/alumni committees or meetings for the medical school. Ed was always upbeat, enthusiastic for any new instrument or procedure in ophthalmology, and was a committed member of the teaching faculty before he retired from clinical practice. His collegue, Arnold Mitchell, who preceeded him in death,and Ed were mentors of mine in my early academic career and I will remember them both fondly. My sympathy for Sybil and his family.

I met Dr. Eigner many years ago when I competed as a membber of the CAC squash team against the Oakwood Club. Although  a very strong competitor, he always had a smile on his face after a match, whether he won or lost a match-he won most of his squash matches.

About 7 years ago, my wife and I were in Nashvile visiting our son,David, who was awaiting the birth of his second child when I lost the sight of my right eye while raking leaves and visited the Vanderbuilt Hospital-after calling Dr. Eigner in Cleveland-who assured me the Eye Institute at Vanderbuilt was a very good medical facility and I should visit it immediately. The retina of my right eye had become detached and was re-attached in less than 24 hours. Dr. Eigner's words were very correct and his assurance made me feel much better.

Both my wife and I were patients of his for many, many years.

We very very lucky to have him as our doctor and friend. He was one of the most caring people I have known !!

The words spoken at his memorial service were very true. They made me feel how lucky we were to have known him.

To the Eigner Family, I don't think I have ever heard a more poingant and  perfect eulogy than the one the Rabbi gave today.  Eddie was indeed a rare and spcial person with something for everyone.

When I joined Oakwood Club in 1980 as a 27 year old, there were two types of people there: those that ignored you (most of the people) and those that went out of their way to make you feel welcomed.  Eddie was, of course, in the second group (it may have been a group of 3!).  My locker was three spots away from his, and we struck up a fast friendship.  When I returned from a year in Washington, Eddie dubbed me "the Mayor of the row," with him as the "behind the scenes" operative.  We talked politics, sports, and of course golf.  I was fortunate to play with him a number of times.  In any event, he was always wonderful to me, and I will miss him.  My sincerest sympathies.  Alan Kopit

To the Eigner Family,

I was blessed to know Dr. Eigner for over 40years.  I first met him when I was employed at Hillcrest Hospital in the Administration Office.  Dr. Eigner soon became a friend as well as my personal eye doctor.  I always looked forward to seeing him.  He was "Mr. GQ!"  He always made me smile even when I was going through some tough times battling cancer.  I was shocked to learn of his passing.  The world has lost a great man and a great physician.  I will always remember him.  He always made me feel special.  He would always tell his girls, "Now you take good care of Ruth.  She is a very important person!  She practically runs Hillcrest Hospital!"  Rest well in the arms of the Lord, Dr. Eigner.  I pray I will see you again someday!

Your Dad was an incredibly caring, wise, intelligent, funny and passionate Doctor, father and husband. I was fortunate to know him for over 40 years as my eye doctor and looked forward to seeing him each visit. I knew I would get individual attention that would make me feel like I was his favorite. I am unable to put into words how very much "the Big Guy" meant to me!  He was so much more than an employer~he was my "other Dad," my friend, my HERO! You were the lights of his life & he was so proud of each & every accomplishment & milestone ever made!

We are so sorry to hear of Dr. Eigner's passing. I had seen Dr. Eigner since I was youg, then added my husband, and two children to his practice.  He was loving, sweet, kind, they just threw away the mold with this man.  He would keep my kids attention from the moment he walked through the door, snapping his fingers, making one disappear.  He had their attention! As the kids moved away one by one, he would ask about them always.  Always proud of their accomplishments as he was for everyone. My son would even come to visit him when he came in to town, just to say hi. He would stop what he was doing to shake his hand, and tell him it was great to see him again. Words can't express how sorry I am. "EHE" was an absolutely wonderful person to work for. When I think of him, I will always remember how patients looked up to him and thought the world of him. He ALWAYS looked so dapper!!!! I can't tell you how many times he would talk to me about his family-he was so proud of each and every one of you. Mrs. Eigner- he thought you hung the moon! I could go on and on, but I will just say "Thank you, Eddy, for giving me my first and ONLY job at the best employer ever!"
